Šćit – Rama – Acrylic Painting

Description

This painting of Šćit, located in Prozor-Rama in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was a present to my wonderful girlfriends family. I had very limited time to finish it but the outcome was better than I initially expected it to be. The plan was to have a impressionistic, almost abstract background with a realistic cross in the front. I ended up detailing the background a bit more which turned out quite nice – I like the roughness of it. From a proper viewing distance (2-3 m) it appears realistic while you can still see individual rough brush strokes, shapes and even other color layers sitting below from close.

Similar to my Majestic Deer Painting – I started this one with a digital concept. The composition as it is here wouldn’t be quite possible. The cross would be more to the side and from previous sketches I’ve done from real photos – I didn’t quite like how far apart the church and cross were.

I grabbed a few of my pictures from our last visit there, stitched them together and replaced some elements. The concept was still not perfect so some things I kept in mind and changed them on the fly – for example the dead grass and bushes (since the pictures were taken in December).
